10) Carmageddon
Older ones amongst you might remember the PC version of Carmageddon. This game was a real hit back then, everyone was playing it, including myself. The game was immensely fun, and it still is. This game is an Android port of a game from 1997’s PC version and it gives you free form driving gameplay in which you tackle different opponents and run over zombies and cows, it sounds insane because it is. You have 36 levels at your disposal along with all sorts of powerups and what not. The game will set you back $1.15 which is not bad for a game like this, even though it’s really old and might not appeal to many people it’s rather enjoyable and it somehow made the list. There is also a free version of the game, but it’s more of a demo than anything else considering it offers very limited content. You can try out the free version first and if you like it pull the trigger on the paid one.
9) N.O.V.A. 3 – Near Orbit
If you’re in the market for a Sci-Fi first-person shooter, N.O.V.A. 3 might be the game for you. This game actually belongs in an older game category due to the fact it launched over 2 years ago, in May 2012. Despite that though, the game is still lots of fun. Graphics are still top notch and you have a single players story mode and 6 multiplayer modes at your disposal. The game is priced at $6.99 which is kind of steep especially considering the game is over 2 years old, but the game does offer a lot of value and game time for the price you’re paying. In-app purchases are available though.
8) Bug Heroes 2
I stumbled upon this game recently and really liked it from the start. It had lots of bugs in the beginning, but the developer is working really hard to squash those. This is a third-person shooter which reminded me awfully lot of Plants vs Zombies (PC version). You have 25 unique heroes to choose from, single player missions, competitive and cooperative multiplayer modes and lots of weapons to fulfill your shooting and needs. If you’re more of a sword guy, that’s not a problem either. Magic attacks are also a part of the game. The game is currently priced at $1.99 in the Play Store (in-app purchases available).
7) Blood & Glory (NR)
Glu released 3 Blood & Glory games thus far, out of the 3 I enjoyed this one the most. Unrated versions are always best? It doesn’t have to be, but in this case I believe it is. Exaggerated amounts of blood are kind of appropriate for a Gladiator game either way you spin it. This is a hack-and-slash gladiator style game which requires you to act fast at a certain time in order to get an advantage while fighting your opponent. Special attacks, combos, decapitations and different weapons are all a part of the package as well as a slew of arenas you can fight in. The game is free on the Google Play Store though it supports in-app purchases.
6) Into The Dead
Into The Dead has a rather familiar, simple and well-known plot. You’re placed in a world run over by zombies and your goal is to survive. When the game starts your character runs and tries to avoid zombies, along the way you pick up all sorts of weapons to try to defend yourself, like a chainsaw and a shotgun for example. Your goal is to survive as long as possible. Missions are here as well to keep you entertained as well as minigoals. Despite the fact game is not exactly brand new, the graphics are still beautiful. You can install it for free via the Google Play Store, this game also supports in-app purchases.
5) Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
Yet another port of an extremely successful PC/console game. Very few tech-savvy people haven’t heard of GTA (Grand Theft Auto), no matter what age we’re talking about nor whether the person is a gamer or not. GTA has become a symbol of sandbox games and its newest version (GTA 5) was the number 1 game for many people and publications in 2013. Same thing goes for GTA: San Andreas, 10 years earlier though. San Andreas is a sandbox action game which actually covers multiple genres with its gameplay. You’re free to do all sorts of jobs around the city, play through the story or complete a ton of side missions which are at your disposal. The game is priced at $6.99 (in-app purchases available), but considering it offers over 70 hours of gameplay, it’s more than worth it.
4) Injustice: Gods Among Us
If you’re into fighting games and you love superheros, this might be just the thing for you. Injustice: Gods Among Us is a mobile version of an extremely popular PC/console game. You have a slew of DC heroes at your disposal out of which you build a roster and you’re ready to fight. They call it a collectible card game on the official page, which it is, but it is much more than that. Collectible card game sounds like you’re going to watch cards bouncing all over the screen, well that’s not the case here. If you your favorite hero is Superman for example and you want to fight Batman, Catwoman, Wonder Woman or some other DC hero, this is your chance. Online multiplayer is also available as well as all sorts of level ups (moves, gear, character upgrades). The game is free to play though it includes in-app purchases.
3) Dead Trigger 2
Dead Trigger was one of the best games on Android for a long time. I actually spent a lot of time playing that game and it’s kind of hard to explain how much fun I’ve had doing that. I always took a chunk of my free time to shoot up some zombies. Dead Trigger 2 is a great sequel to the original. This is basically a first person shooter with a storyline which is getting continuous updates from the developer in order to keep you going even after you finish it. 33 kinds of weapons, 30 different surroundings and 600 gameplay scenarios. As you progress you’ll be able to purchase different weapons and other upgrades, so you’ll basically never be bored while playing this game. The graphics are really great and you really get a lot of gameplay value here, not to mention the game is free to play (in-app purchases are available).
2) Shadowgun: Deadzone
If I played anything more than Dead Trigger, then that’s Shadowgun: Deadzone. This is a multiplayer 3rd person Sci-Fi shooter which has an incredible amount of gameplay and replay value. This game always reminds me of Unreal Tournament for some reason. You have lots of weapons at your disposal, as well as all sorts of items. You’ll have to earn most of those by playing the game of course and collecting points. Deathmatch or Zone Control modes are at your disposal to compete with players all around the world. It might be smart to play through single player Shadowgun game first though, it is a perfect way to learn the basics and get ready for online action. This game is free in the Google Play Store though it offers in-app purchases which can be somewhat annoying at times. I highly recommend it none the less.
1) Modern Combat 5: Blackout
The long-awaited fifth iteration of Gameloft’s popular first person shooter series, Modern Combat 5 landed on Google Play about a month ago and it’s great. Of course we can nitpick and say that bugs ruined the experience, however the developer quickly squashed the majority of those even though the game is still acting weird from time to time. That will be fixed with time as well. The game is great though, really great. Think of it as an Android version of Call of Duty, for those of you who haven’t played previous versions of the game. This is a first-person shooter which includes single and multiplayer fun for $6.99 (no in-app purchases). This might be a bit pricey, but this game really does offer a lot of value for the buck, like some of the games we’ve mentioned above. Choose one of the four solider classes Assault, Heavy, Recon, or Sniper and get in on the fun.(Not all the different character classes are available immediately however as you’ll need to spend some time unlocking them, which can be done in the campaign)You have a few multiplayer modes at your disposal as well as skill points in order to improve your character. Note that the internet connection is required in order to play the game, even the single player campaign for some reason, which is a shame of course.
